How to Replace a Derailleur?

A derailleur is a variable ratio bicycle gearing system consisting of a chain, various sprockets of distinct sizes, and a device to drive the chain from one sprocket to another. The derailleur is the tool that shifts gears by moving the chain from one sprocket to another. There are two bike derailleurs: the back derailleurs and front derailleurs. The highest ratio is created when the chain is on the largest sprocket in the front and the smallest in the back. You can buy a front derailleurs from Shimano, Sram, Campagnolo.

Derailleur adjustment

Begin by getting the rear wheel off your bike. Next, utilize the hex wrench to release and discharge the bolt that joins the derailleur to the hanger. Its accurate to let the derailleur dangle from the shift cable while you work. Now separate the hanger enclosure from the quitters on the frame with a hex wrench. Some hangers will have two halves to remove.
Before installing the replacement hanger, wash off the quitters area with a bike cleaner and a cloth. Then grease both the inside and outside of the frame with bike grease. Now you can install the new hanger and bend it into place using a hex wrench. Grease up the strings on the derailleur mounting bolt and reconnect the derailleur. Utilize a torque wrench to squeeze the bolt to the manufacturers designated torque. Now reinstall the rear wheel and make certain the gears are moving frequently.
